AP & Honors

Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Medical Lake High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.

For the 2019 AP exams, students at Medical Lake High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access.

This year each AP exam costs $94.00. Medical Lake High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students requiring financial assistance should contact Lisa Prewitt,, at Medical Lake High School to learn more.

Online Exam registration will begin today, Feb 7, 2019 and end on Fri, Mar 22, 2019 at 12:35 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link provide on the school website or visit to register.

To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:

  • Wed, Feb 6, 2019 at 12:35 PM - Registration Begins
  • Fri, Mar 22, 2019 at 12:35 PM - Registration Ends

Classes of 2020 & 2022

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are becoming more competitive and desirable at Medical Lake High School. While we would like to be able to offer enough seats for any student interested in taking an AP course, we are unable to do so at this time and therefore are using a short application and contract to select participants. These applications will be used when there are over 30 applicants wanting the same course.

The Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes are intended to challenge students and prepare them for the rigors of college. In addition, AP courses and exams provide students with the possibility of earning college credits and strengthen student’s transcripts prior to the college admission process. In order to receive these added academic benefits, it is expected that students will subscribe to the following:

  • I understand that the academic rigor and teacher expectations will be higher than regular classes.
  • I understand that I must obtain and fully complete the summer assignments which are distributed by the content teachers.
  • I understand that I must be self-motivated and be committed to study independently beyond class time and given assignments.
  • I understand that the class includes the expectation of my registering for and taking the AP exam in the spring. The cost of each exam varies by year, but is approximately $90.00/exam. There are reduced costs for students on free/reduced lunch.
  • I understand that I can’t drop the AP or Honors course in the fall, as I may be taking a spot from someone else.

  • Student Signature: __________________________________________________  Date ___________
  • Student Name (Printed): _________________________________________Grade ______________

Application: Please type a 1-3 paragraph response to the following prompt and attach it to this signed contract. If applying for multiple AP classes, attach each response to one AP contract.

Please complete one contract and an application for each AP class.
If your student is enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) class and intends to take the AP exam this May, please see the attached order form.  This order form needs to be filled out and payment needs to be made to Ms. Patty in the main office no later than March 23rd.  This ensures that we can receive exam materials in time.  Tests are $94.00 each this year.
If your family is on the free/reduced lunch program or you believe you may qualify for assistance based on your income level, etc., please see the attached form titled, “AP Income Verification Form.”  If you qualify, please turn that form in to Ms. Patty along with payment.  The cost of each exam then lowers to $10.00.
These forms were passed out in AP classes and are also available in the Counseling Center. Please contact your student’s counselor if you have any questions.
